It’s a new educational event that Chicago SHRM added to its offerings — part Meet Up, part networking, part problem solving, part hackathon. We piloted the HR TeamUP with an event on November 7, 2018 at the offices of our partner Neal Gerber Eisenberg. Using the techniques of Lean Coffee, Jeanette Johnson, Vice President of People, Project44 and Chicago SHRM Board Member, was the facilitator. Participants identified their big HR challenges, and through group consensus, determined which challenges were discussed. The group then became HR strategists, used concepts of design thinking, and took on the challenges by providing solutions from many points of view.
At the end of the program, there was a unanimous raise of hands that Chicago SHRM should continue the programs. A trio of HR practitioners from Assurance shared that they liked that it was collaborative and organic, “it was a pick me up”, “liked how we could navigate an issue”, and “I would like to come to another one of these events”. Other participants loved the process of design thinking and hearing from other HR practitioners.
This was a successful pilot! Chicago SHRM will have additional HR TeamUP programs in 2019 and stay tuned!
