Happy New Year! It’s one of my favorite times as I reflect on the past year and set plans and goals for the new year. It’s a time of excitement and refueling as we look ahead.
This year is especially energizing as I am honored and humbled to serve as President of Chicago SHRM. I’m so fortunate to have learned from the absolute best and to have partnered with Shelli Nelson. I hope to continue her bright path forward.
Chicago SHRM has given me so much over my past ten years of membership and volunteering. I have met HR colleagues that have become good friends. I have gained countless skills that have helped me in HR and business, and every time I have something new that comes across my desk, I have at least five people in my Chicago SHRM network that I can call for advice, a referral, or a sympathetic ear. I know my story is not unique, and our goals as a board this year are to expand our reach and ensure even more HR professionals, business leaders, and HR partners can benefit from membership within our wonderful community and network.
Our theme for the year is to “Level Up”. As a board, we want to continue to raise the bar on our membership experience so that you simply cannot imagine your career (and life!) without Chicago SHRM. Our main goal is to become a Super Mega SHRM chapter – that’s 1,000 members! We absolutely know we can get there with your help and with a focus on member retention(it’s so hard to say goodbye), corporate membership(the more the merrier), and innovative programming(we are changing it up!). We would love to get you involved in our journey towards Super Mega.
I am looking forward to “leveling up” on a personal front as well this year. I noticed I was getting in a routine rut last year, so I created a new bucket list of 100 things to do in life. I aim to complete 15 in 2019, including taking family photos (I have one million pictures of our daughter and about three pictures of us as a family), writing a story with our daughter (she’s only two and a half so it promises to be a fun, nonsensical story), and paying for someone else’s meal (someone anonymously did this for our family, and I will find a moment to pay it forward this year).
I look forward to an action-packed year with you all as we tackle our 2019 pursuits together! Hope to see you at an event soon!
